Counterparts (Thieves Edition) by Michelle Williams Gamaker and Yuna Goda

Counterparts is a limited edition made for South London Gallery and launched in conjunction with the opening of Williams Gamaker's solo show Our Mountains Are Painted On Glass (March, 2023)
The design is inspired by the US Women Quarters Programme, which celebrated the achievements of actor Anna May Wong on the Quarter Dollar in 2022. This edition brings together the cast members of 'Thieves', Williams Gamaker's new film, the artist herself and the original actors, director, producer and writer of the 1924 and 1940 versions of 'The Thief of Bagdad', which inspired the exhibition. They are presented on coins alongside quotes that draw out the politics and themes of the films.
